Artist's Retreat for rent
Seeking an inspiring, restful place bathed in sunshine to complete your life’s work – your memoir, award-winning novel, musical composition, painting, film-script or play?
Perhaps the picturesque village of 2 Mai nestled along the delectable Black Sea coast of Romania is the ideal place for you.
Described as “a peaceful oasis where dogs loll lazily in front of their master’s wooden gates dreaming of fields to explore and knuckle bones to gnaw that could easily be mistaken for Claude Monet’s famed Giverny deep in French Normandy or Salvador Dali’s hometown of Figueres in Spain’s Catalonia,” 2 Mai is one of the best-kept secrets in Europe.

Not only does this charming coastal village reflect sheer innocence and rural rusticity but it is located a minute’s walk from a soft-sand beach with clear waters for that perfect daily, invigorating swim.
2 Mai also features a number of friendly cafes and restaurants offering fresh seafood and traditional Romanian dishes and desserts and is only a five-minute drive from historic Mangalia, a former 2,000-year-old Greek settlement known as Callatis, now a town buzzing with lively open-air vegetable and fish markets, as well as spas with special saltwater and mud bath treatments. Here you can visit the Callatis Archeological Museum, the Syrian Basilica, the ruins of Callatis Fortress and the 16th century Esmahan Sultan Mosque, the oldest mosque in Romania.
Open for artists of all kinds, ‘Artist’s Retreat’ is a countryside house constructed from natural materials, mainly clay and stone sourced from the surrounding hills, and located in a bucolic setting in the center of the village.
In addition to its close vicinity to warm, inviting beaches and to historic Mangalia, 2 Mai is also only five kilometers from its ‘twin’ village, Vama Veche, a little-known brother of Venice Beach, California, where music plays in numerous beach-lined bars and cafes.
Offering even more diversity, neighboring Bulgaria is only 4 kilometers away, with Europe’s oldest settlement, now an intriguing architectural site, just 15 minutes across the border.
‘Artist’s Retreat’ is a perfect place for precious free-flowing creative time in the midst of nature, a haven to re-charge and re-inspire artists far away from the pressures of daily life.
‘Artist’s Retreat’ has four separate bedrooms, bathroom with convenient shower facilities and a fully-equipped kitchen with all mod cons. Guests also enjoy the privacy of their own quiet outdoor terrace and garden with table and chairs set out romantically under the stars with a canopy of vines.
The house is open for rent on a weekly basis (minimum period being one week with discounts available for longer periods), from June 4th to September 30th 2018.
