2 Mai also features a number of friendly cafes and restaurants offering fresh seafood and traditional Romanian dishes and desserts and is only a five-minute drive from historic Mangalia, a former 2,000-year-old Greek settlement known as Callatis, now a town buzzing with lively open-air vegetable and fish markets, as well as spas with special saltwater and mud bath treatments. Here you can visit the Callatis Archeological Museum, the Syrian Basilica, the ruins of Callatis Fortress and the 16th century Esmahan Sultan Mosque, the oldest mosque in Romania.
Open for artists of all kinds, ‘Artist’s Retreat’ is a countryside house constructed from natural materials, mainly clay and stone sourced from the surrounding hills, and located in a bucolic setting in the center of the village.
In addition to its close vicinity to warm, inviting beaches and to historic Mangalia, 2 Mai is also only five kilometers from its ‘twin’ village, Vama Veche, a little-known brother of Venice Beach, California, where music plays in numerous beach-lined bars and cafes.
Offering even more diversity, neighboring Bulgaria is only 4 kilometers away, with Europe’s oldest settlement, now an intriguing architectural site, just 15 minutes across the border.

‘Artist’s Retreat’ has four separate bedrooms, bathroom with convenient shower facilities and a fully-equipped kitchen with all mod cons. Guests also enjoy the privacy of their own quiet outdoor terrace and garden with table and chairs set out romantically under the stars with a canopy of vines.

The house is open for rent on a weekly basis (minimum period being one week with discounts available for longer periods), from June 4th to September 30th 2018.
